Blessings in Disguise
Before I get into offering a comment or two concerning issues that I believe are important, particularly NOW, for each of us to consider, here’s an update concerning my schedule for the next few days:
Today, Thursday, October 30th, I’m in my office, normal hours
Tomorrow, Friday, October 31st, I will be on the road traveling to visit my mom at a nursing home halfway across the state, and my step-father, who is currently hospitalized. I will have my cell phone along and if you need to reach me, probably the best times to catch me on Friday will be between 8am and 9am Central time (9-10 am Eastern, 6 - 7am Pacific time); AND any time after 12 noon Central Time (after 1pm Eastern, after 10am Pacific)
Saturday and Sunday (Nov 1 and Nov 2), I will be available most of the day each of those days via my cell phone.
Monday, November 3rd, will find me back in my office, keeping normal business hours.
Most importantly IF you have not voted already, do make sure to get out and VOTE on Tuesday, November 4th.
Now to those comments applicable to the title of today’s post:
So much, these days, clients, family and friends are expressing concern for personal finances, and the economy in general. There is a great deal of fear-mongering being dished out even within the spiritual/metaphysical community. In addition, circulating amongst the spiritual community, is a bundle of 2012 hype - which I will address more fully in another post some time soon.
What I’d like to toss out today for your consideration, is the idea/possibility that even in the midst of financial concern and a sense of “troubled times”…. there can emerge Blessings in Disguise, for those who have the sensibility to recognize these for what they are.
Relatives of mine are losing their home. Sounds plenty awful, huh? It’s the reason I will be available mostly by cell phone this weekend. Marty and I will be helping them move. And yet, in the midst of this event, I see a blessing in disguise, and I believe they do too.
This loss comes not through any unwise or bad choices/decisions on their part. Mistake you not, concerning that. Nope. It’s the result of things that could happen to ANY of us. This is a couple with two children. A health situation the wife has had to navigate has left her unemployed for three years, medical bills and lost income resulted in refinancing the house. Then came the complication of hospital acquired MRSA. Their health insurance company refuses to cover the cost of treatment for MRSA resulting from hardware installed in her body during a surgical procedure. Can a patient sue the hospital in such situation? Nope. According to attorneys there are so many cases it’s considered a normal risk, not malpractice. (Or some such excuse).
End result is that this couple fought the good fight, attempting to keep up with bills until their furnace went out last week. With the mortgage holder unwilling to renegotiate an already unworkable mortgage, and no funds to replace a furnace that can’t be repaired…. they are left with no choice but to walk away from their home and their mortgage. Everybody’s nightmare.
And yet…. a home they’ve found to rent is larger, nicer, with room arrangement better suited to their family’s needs … and comes with rent that is half the amount of their mortgage payment. Not to mention, there will be no real estate taxes, and a lesser cost renter’s insurance, rather than homeowners.
For certain, their credit score is about to take a nose-dive, probably long-term. But with the same thing happening for so very many good people who’ve worked hard for decades, paid their dues, and managed their money as carefully as possible - only through time and circumstance to find themselves in positions similar to what I’ve just described - I’m left wondering: how important is that credit score going to be? Are there other values? And most importantly, IS there a message here for all of us?
My relatives may be losing their home, their credit score headed down the drain, and yet it’s looking as if the actual quality of their lives may be about to IMPROVE MAJORLY!
A humorous side note: The husband of this couple had been doing tarot spreads seeking answers to their financial dilemma. This was before the furnace went out, which acted as the catalyst for change. He told me each time he tossed a spread, the cards seemed to be talking about a change of residence and financial improvement. A change of residence at the time seemed so impossible to him, that he thought he’d lost his “touch” with the cards. Nope. Those cards are always right. Sometimes we don’t understand the message, or garble the interpretation…. but tarot can and does show the way.
The message I extract from this is that it’s important today to become as fluid and flexible as possible, to think creatively, and to keep an eye out for those “Blessings in Disguise”!!! Because they do happen. Even now.
